General: One of nature's best herbal sedatives! Clusters of pale pink flowers and dark green leaflets make this herb a standout in the ornamental garden. Plant in fertile, moist, well-drained soil.
Medicinal Uses: Valerian is commonly used for sleep disorders, especially insomnia. It is frequently combined with hops, lemon balm, or other herbs that also cause drowsiness. It is also used for conditions connected to anxiety and psychological stress including nervous asthma, hysterical states, excitability, fear of illness, headaches, migraine, and stomach upset.
Ornamental Uses: Grows quite tall, producing deep pink buds that open into fairly loose clusters of pink five-petaled flowers, the petals joined at the base to form a trumpet-like corolla.
